Departmental Tutoring Services

Fordham College at Rose Hill offers tutoring services for most academic departments, free of charge. For any subject area not listed below, please consult with the associate chair for undergraduates of the department.

Biological Sciences

Biology student tutors are available for walk-in meetings in the Larkin Hall 1st Floor Student Lounge. Consult the Fall 2017 Tutoring Schedule for details.


The Department offers free tutoring for General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Physical Chemistry courses, on a walk-in or appointment basis, depending on the course.

Classical Languages

Graduate students in the department provide tutorial assistance to undergraduates. Students can consult either their professor or the Chair of the Department of Classics.

Computer Science

Tutoring is available for students in Structures of Computer Science (CISC 1100) and Discrete Structures (CISC 1400). Students should visit the Department's Tutoring Room, located in JMH 312, which operates on the following schedule:

  • Monday, 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm
  • Thursday, 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm


The Economics Department provides free tutoring in the following courses: ECON 1100 (Basic Macroeconomics), ECON 1200 (Basic Microeconomics), ECON 2140 (Statistics I), ECON 2142 (Statistical Decision Making), and ECON 3154 (Math for Economists I).

Location: 5th Floor of Dealy Hall, Room E-535.

Tutors are available Monday through Friday, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm, on walk-in basis.

English/Writing Center

The Writing Center is located in Walsh Library, Reference Area, Room 121, and can be reached by phone at 718-817-0077. Students can schedule appointments online.


The Math Help Room is located in JMH 410. Math Help Room hours for the Fall 2017 semester are Monday through Friday, 9:30 am - 4:30 pm. See the full schedule for details. No appointment is necessary.

Modern Languages

Free tutoring, practice, and conversation is available in all languages taught by the department. Skilled upperclass language majors, student native speakers, and several course instructors serve as tutors. No appointment is needed, but check the Fall 2017 Tutoring Schedule before you go (Faber 568).

The Language Learning Center in Keating B25 (RH) and LL 412 (LC) also provides instructional technology for language students, as well as access to international television stations and films.


The Philosophy Department offers one-on-one tutoring for students, upon request. For more information, contact Ms. Margaret Donovan.

Physics & Engineering Physics

The Department of Physics & Engineering Physics provides students with two different tutoring options: (1) walk-in peer tutoring during regularly scheduled hours (location: Freeman Hall 205), and (2) tutoring by appointment from Physics & Engineering Physics majors, for which students should contact the relevant tutor directly to confirm a time and place.
