The experience of grief, loss, and bereavement is universal. Recognizing these issues is essential to the very basics of social work practice with individuals and groups. This class will investigate: the theoretical framework(s) for understanding grief, loss and bereavement; review multiple experiences/ definitions of grief; address the impact of culture, religion, and spirituality on the grief experience; and review complicated and uncomplicated grief in adults. Part 1 of this class, sets the foundation for the following two classes (Part 2 and 3) in this three-part course. Part 1 may be taken as an independent class and is also the prerequisite for enrollment in Parts 2 and 3.

Each of the three parts is worth 5 CEHs. Part 1 is a prerequisite for Parts 2 and 3.

Classes are held in a barrier-free building.

Ms. Mamber has 34 years of experience in geriatrics, health care, palliative care, and hospice, and community-based programs providing patient care, supervision, program management/development, and program leadership. She is currently an Adjunct Professor at Fordham University Graduate School of Social Service and a consultant and educator providing professional education to home care agencies and nursing home staff.

Anyone who registers for more than one class will receive a discount

Continuing Education Hours

Fordham University Graduate School of Social Service is a provider of social work continuing education hours, as approved by the New York State Education Department Board for Social Work.

Completion of this class will result in the receipt of five (5) continuing education hours for each parts. CEHs are not awarded for partial completion of the class.

Refunds and Cancellations

Refunds may be issued as follows:

  • 10 working days prior to the class date: full refund
  • 7 to 9 working days prior to the class date: 50% refund
  • 6 working days or less prior to the class date: no refund
NOTE: Working day is Monday through Friday, non-holiday days.
Refund requests must be made via email to The date on the email will be used to determine the amount of the refund.
If the class is cancelled, all registrants will receive a full refund.
