Overview: The Social Impact 360 Fellowship (formerly Compass Fellowship) is a one-year program that identifies the most passionate first-year undergraduates at schools around the country, inspires them to start a social venture, and empowers them to solve the world’s greatest problems with socially-conscious business. Fordham became one of a few select U.S. universities to take part in the prestigious Social Impact 360 program by launching a chapter in 2011, joining Georgetown, Stanford, Duke and UC Berkeley.

Throughout the fellowship year, Social Impact 360 fellows are supported on a weekly basis by mentors within Fordham who help them to start a social venture. The first semester is focused on personal development and features modules that help students focus on their business ideas; entrepreneurs from around New York City who are making a social impact come to speak about their experiences and offer advice. The second semester is more venture-focused, with Social Impact 360 mentors offering more technical advice in regard to incorporation, taxation and raising capital.

The fellowship has two culminating events:

  • Shift Series is the Social Impact 360's annual national convention, held in Washington, D.C. Social Impact 360 fellows meet all the other fellows from around the country, exchange ideas and experiences, participate in pitch meetings and networking sessions, and listen to influential keynote speakers.
  • The Fordham Social Impact 360 Gala is an end-of-year celebration of the fellows’ achievements. Each fellow presents about his or her venture for about 15 minutes; a cocktail reception follows. Attendees at the inaugural gala included representatives from the national Social Impact 360 organization, Gabelli School of Business professors, and even Kenneth Cole, the designer whose foundation supports Social Impact 360.
