When using your Windows device to login to the Fordham Network Access Control (NAC), the University‚Äôs web-based security system, a firewall is required.The NAC allows a number of firewall products. However, Fordham IT only provides full support for Windows Firewall and Symantec Endpoint Protection for Windows. This software is available at no charge to the University community and can be downloaded from this site.

Enable the Firewall

Symantec Endpoint Protection (university-licensed software available for download on the Antivirus page)

  • Click on the Start button
  • Choose Symantec Endpoint Protection
  • In the box that appears, click on the Fix button
  • Close the Symantec Endpoint Protection window

Vista and Windows 7

  • Click on Start > Control Panel > Security Center / System and Security
  • Click on Windows Firewall
  • Click on Turn Windows Firewall On or Off
  • Set to Turn on Windows Firewall for all network locations
  • Click OK
  • Close the Control Panel window

Windows XP

  • Click Start > Settings > Control Panel > Security Center
  • Under Manage security settings  click on Windows Firewall
  • Set to Automatic (recommended)*
  • Click on Apply
  • Click on OK
  • Close the Windows Security Center window
  • Close the Control Panel window
