What We're Looking For
Let's do great things together.
You’re looking for a good fit. So are we.
In our admission process, we want to bring together students who are going to do great things—to strive for "more" as a class.
This notion of “more”—magis—is a thread that runs through our Jesuit education. It’s what inspires our students to pursue an Honors curriculum, participate in a Google competition, or chase a National Science Foundation fellowship. We don’t expect this from a few “special” Fordham students—this is what we hope all Fordham students will do.
Our goal is to find people who aren’t going to sit on the sidelines. Have you led a Habitat for Humanity project in your hometown? Did you do some independent study that has challenged and shaped you? Are you looking at New York City as a place where you can learn as much outside the classroom as inside?
Your application will be reviewed holistically as we look for students who are a good match for Fordham. Our primary focus is that you will be academically successful and bring personal qualities of integrity, perseverance, and leadership to our campus communities. We learn about you through your transcripts, test scores, essay, extra-curricular activities, and your primary academic letter of recommendation. For many students, this part of our review provides a strong indication if Fordham is a good fit for you. For some applicants, we need to know even more about them to inform our decision. Therefore, we will also consider elements such as additional recommendations or other supplementary materials.
As we consider a student's application, we seek to get to know you beyond the numbers including how a student will give back to Fordham, local, national and international communities via service and stewardship. This is integral to our mission as a Jesuit University as we seek to educate global citizens.
We hope you’ll want to get to know more about us, too: This website is a good start; we’d love to see you on campus for a visit, too. Get in touch with the admissions rep who covers your region to learn when they may be in your area. Or just drop us an email - we’d love to answer any of your questions!
