Visual Arts Mission and Learning Goals
The Visual Arts Program of the Department of Theatre and Visual Arts reflects the mission of the University in its commitment to educate the whole person and foster the development of rigorously intellectual, creative and socially engaged artists. With a foundation in Fordham’s liberal arts curriculum, Program graduates will think critically, value creativity and apply the range of art’s expressive and technical skills – all in the service of artistic excellence.
The Program operates in the fields of painting and drawing, photography, film and video, graphic design, and architecture. We see these practices both as disciplines in themselves and also as part of larger historical and ethical arenas. In an increasingly visually-oriented workplace and world at large, our students are prepared to take their places as productive and engaged citizens, equipped with enhanced creativity, marketable skills in a variety of professions, and an expanded vision of art’s scope and potential.
