UHC - Montefiore In-Network Contract Negotiations for 2021
As you may recall, the Office of Human Resources Management advised employees on November 20, 2020, of contract negotiations between UnitedHealthcare (UHC) and Montefiore Health Systems. In addition, UHC informed individual members (in the first week of December 2020 and January 2021) of ongoing negotiations and the potential impact on Montefiore Health Systems in-network coverage.
Montefiore Health Systems and UHC have not yet reached an agreement. As a result, Montefiore physicians are no longer considered in-network as the contract expired as of January 1, 2021. However, pursuant to a New York State mandated cooling-off period, Montefiore hospitals will remain in-network until February 28, 2021.
Fordham has strongly urged and continues to urge both UHC and Montefiore to come to an agreement as soon as possible for the benefit of the Fordham family and the extended communities that they serve.
There are a number of in-network alternate care options and neighboring hospitals that employees and their dependents can consider. You can find this information at myuhc.com.
Should you choose to use Montefiore services on an out-of-network basis, your out-of-pocket expenses may be eligible under Fordham’s HRA, HSA or MAF. We remind you that both the Enhanced Standard Option and Health Investment Option provide benefits for in and out-of-network services. For those who wish to access Montefiore or any providers on an out-of-network basis, we encourage you to review the out-of-network benefits available on our plans.
We are monitoring this situation and will provide updates as new information becomes available. For information on UHC’s and Montefiore's position concerning these negotiations, please visit UHC Network Negotiations with Montefiore and Montefiore United.
