Biography

Matthew Charles is a second-year doctoral student in Systematic Theology with primary research interests in Christology, Christological controversies, hermeneutics and reception, and popular culture centering around the question of images and manifestations of Jesus in popular culture. He worked as a Middle School Mathematics teacher before entering the doctoral program. Originally from Washington, DC, Matthew participated in the Brethren Christian tradition before transitioning to non-denominational worship at Renaissance Church in Harlem. He currently resides in the Bronx with his wife and daughter. He is a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. Along with enjoying talking about theology, Matthew enjoys reading comic books and non-fiction, listening to music, and Articulated Comic Book Art (ACBA).
