GSAS Graduate Student Council Representatives

GSC President M. Gaby Hurtarte Leon  

Maria (who goes by Gaby) is a doctoral candidate in English serving as the President of the Graduate Student Council for the 2023 – 2024 academic year. As a strong believer in the power of community, Gaby is excited to advocate for and assist students with their various interests to build stronger and effective networks and opportunities for graduate students. Her research focuses on the oral histories of Central American immigrant women performing domestic work in the U.S.

GSC Vice President Preston Carter

Preston Carter is a doctoral candidate in Philosophy and the Vice President of the Graduate Student Council for the 2023-2024 academic year. He looks forward to working with students, especially those in the GSAS student body seeking empowerment within their education. His research focuses on social and political philosophical approaches (especially those of Édouard Glissant) to colonialism and resistance to colonialism in the French Caribbean, especially the direct actions of the Liyannaj Kont Pwofitasyon (Alliance against Colonial Profiteering).
