Professor Chazin has more than 35 years experience as a therapist, teacher, trainer, and organizational consultant with social service and business organizations. Within the School, he has taught various advanced clinical courses, including brief treatment, clinical practice, crisis intervention and trauma therapy, family and group therapy courses.
In addition to other committee service, he continues as chair of the International Committee. This Committee, appointed by the Dean, is responsible for providing leadership in promoting the School’s international activity. The Committee has sponsored and co-sponsored many internationally focused learned lunches and symposiums for faculty and students, hosted a national conference reception, worked on infusing international content throughout the curriculum, and created a Global Service Specialization.
Dr. Chazin’s strong current interest is international social work. His international experience began in the early 1990s with a psychosocial needs assessment in Ukraine and Belarus. He followed this by teaching selected basic social work curriculum to Vietnamese university faculty in Ho Chi Minh City. Subsequently, he spent four years as project coordinator and trainer of school- based practitioners in Chernobyl- contaminated areas in Ukraine. This training sought to assist Ukraine in addressing the psychosocial aftermath of the Chernobyl disaster. He followed this project by conducting a psychosocial needs assessment of tuberculosis patients in the nation of Georgia. Most recently, he consulted with Hanoi University, Vietnam related to their efforts to establish a masters degree social work program.
Dr. Chazin has published and presented at national and international conferences on global social work issues and work with immigrants and refugees. He is currently scheduled to speak on international collaboration at the 2006 Council on Social Work Education 2006 Annual Program Meeting and the 2006 International Federation of Social Workers. Finally, Dr. Chazin currently serves on the International Consortium for Social Development Symposium organizing Committee planning its 2007 Symposium, to be held in China.
