Poets Out Loud Prizes

S Brook Corfman

S. Brook Corfman's POL Prize-winning book, My Daily Actions, or The Meteorites, will be out from Fordham Press in Fall 2020. They are the author of Luxury, Blue Lace, chosen by Richard Siken for the 2018 Autumn House Rising Writer Prize, as well as two chapbooks: the limited-edition letterpress Meteorites (DoubleCross Press) and the digital collection of performance pieces The Anima (GaussPDF). They are an incoming poetry editor at Pinwheel, and recent work has appeared in Conjunctions, DIAGRAM, The Offing, and Typo. A critical essay is forthcoming in TSQ. Born and raised in Chicago, they now live in a turret in Pittsburgh. 


Jose Alvergue

José Felipe Alvergue's scenery, winner of the POL Editor's Prize, will be published by Fordham Press in Fall 2020. He is the author of gist : rift : drift : bloom (Further Other Book Works, 2015), a poetic-visual meditation on landscape, extinction, and guns; and precis (Omnidawn 2017), which explores the legacies of neoliberalism and militarization at the Mexico/US border and their effects on human life. His poetic work appears in such places as the Boston Review, Apogee, TAB, Tupelo Quarterly, and has been anthologized in BAX: Best American Experimental Writing (Wesleyan University Press). An excerpt from scenery, “hogtied,” was selected by Bhanu Kapil as the winner of Tupelo Quarterly’s 2018 Prose Open Prize. He holds an MFA from the Cal Arts Writing Program, and a Ph.D. from the Buffalo Poetics Program. José teaches Contemporary Literature and Transnationalism and lives in Wisconsin.
