The Role of Bar Associations in Successful Legal Profession Development in Transitioning Countries
The development of an strong, independent, and effective legal profession is a cornerstone of democracy and human rights, protecting the rule of law and providing a means for citizens to assert their rights. What does a strong, independent, and effective legal profession look like? What role do bar associations play in strengthening the legal profession in emerging democracies, post-conflict societies, and developing countries? What challenges do bar associations face and how can they be overcome? Leaders of the legal profession from around the world will discuss these questions and share their experience of strengthening the legal profession in times of societal and governmental transition.
