International FAQs

If I am a United States citizen or permanent resident, but I live abroad, do I apply to Fordham University as an international student? What tests are required?
All applicants to Fordham University can use the same application. There is not a separate application for international students or Americans living abroad. All United States citizens and eligible non-citizens are required to submit SAT or ACT results to Fordham University as part of their application for admission. 

If I attend a United States High School, but do not have United States citizenship or permanent residency, how should I apply to Fordham University? What tests are required?
All applicants to Fordham University can use the same application. There is not a separate application for international students. Fordham University will be able to determine your international student status through your answers to the application questions. All international students are expected to submit SAT or ACT results to Fordham as part of their application for admission. International students who are non-native English speakers should also submit TOEFL or IELTS results with their application. 

I am an international student currently in an English language high school.  Do I have to take the TOEFL?
Yes.  Fordham requires TOEFL or IELTS results from all non-native English speaking international applicants.  If you do not submit TOEFL or IELTS results, this may impact your admission decision.

Does Fordham waive the TOEFL requirement if I study in high school in the USA or if I meet a minimum SAT score?
No. Fordham requires TOEFL or IELTS results from all non-native English speaking international applicants.  If you do not submit TOEFL or IELTS results, this may impact your admission decision. 

If I have begun university level study at another institution, can I choose to apply to Fordham University as a freshman and not transfer any credits?
No. If you have begun university level coursework, you should apply to Fordham University as a transfer applicant. This is the case even if you do not think any of your current courses will transfer. A World Education Services (WES) evaluation is also required.

Does Fordham University recognize the International Baccalaureate (IB)?
Fordham University does recognize the academic challenge of the International Baccalaureate program. Fordham University issues college credit for International Baccalaureate Higher Level exam scores of 5, 6 or 7. Please instruct the International Baccalaureate Organization to send your results directly to the Fordham University Office of Undergraduate Admission.
 
Does Fordham University offer credit for international leaving exams/maturity certificates?
Fordham University will consider some international leaving exams/maturity certificates for college credit, depending on the exam, subjects and specific results. Please email intadmission@fordham.edu with specific questions.
 
Does Fordham University offer merit scholarships to international applicants?
Fordham University does offer merit scholarships to qualified international freshman applicants. All complete first year applications are considered for scholarship potential. These awards are highly competitive and if a scholarship is offered, you will be notified when admitted. Fordham University does not offer merit scholarships to international transfer applicants nor visiting students.
 
Does Fordham University offer need based financial aid to international applicants?
Fordham University does not offer need based financial aid to international applicants. A student must be a United States citizen or eligible non-citizen to qualify for United States federal and /or New York state financial aid. Therefore, international applicants do not need to complete the FAFSA or PROFILE forms.
 
Does Fordham University offer undergraduate conditional admission?
No. Fordham University does not offer conditional admission to undergraduate applicants. Students who need English language study prior to an undergraduate program are encouraged to apply to the Fordham Institute of American Language and Culture.
 
Does Fordham University offer English as a second language (ESL)?
Fordham University offers a full-time ESL program at the Institute of American Language and Culture (IALC) at our Lincoln Center campus. The IALC also offers part-time courses for enrolled non-native English speakers at Fordham University.
