The Fordham College Alumni Association Journalism Scholars Award
This $1,500 award, intended as a stipend for a student who undertakes (and completes) an unpaid summer 2020 internship in the field of journalism, will be presented to a Fordham College junior or senior who demonstrates outstanding interest and promise in becoming as a journalist. The recipient will have a knowledge of journalism, experience reporting and writing, and an interest in pursuing a career in the field. He or she will also have secured an unpaid internship for summer 2020. Applications will be judged on presentation, content, writing skill and experience to date. This award will be awarded by May 1, 2020.
Applicants must be juniors or seniors at Fordham College Rose Hill. Applications must be emailed by April 1, 2020 to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The application will consists of:
- A cover note to the award committee detailing your credentials for this award and a description of the internship you have secured for summer 2020. Include your inspiration to study journalism, your experience doing so to date and your aspirations for the future. Also include contact information (name, address, phone, email, date of birth) and the internship workplace name, name of supervisor and time commitment required.
- A resume containing education and work experience, most notably any previous internships or paid positions related to journalism.
- A sample of (up to three) stories written by you and published by a college or professional media outlet. PDFs or links accepted. For large video or audio files, save to google drive and share with email@example.com.
During your internship, you will be required to submit a mid-term and final report, signed by your supervisor, confirming that you have met the requirements of the position.
The first half of the award ($750) will be remitted upon announcement of the award. The second half ($750) will be presented upon FCAA receipt of the mid-term report.
