MS Career Services

Before you arrive on campus

The Career Development Center initiates communication with MS students before their academic programs begin. MS students receive information and access to CDC resources that will allow them to undertake the career discernment, research, and exploration process and begin working on critical “self-marketing materials” for the job search.

During orientation

During orientation, MS students are formally introduced to CDC programming and staff members. They learn how the CDC can assist with the job-search process. Orientation career sessions cover:

  • Recruiting etiquette
  • General job-search strategy
  • Industry specifics (provided in part by current students and Fordham alumni)

Career Advising
MS students first have access to generalist career advisors who work with them to navigate the first two stages of the job-search process: (1) discernment, research, and exploration, and (2) creating compelling “self-marketing materials.”

Once those first two stages are complete, students “unlock” access to an industry-specific or function-specific career advisor. Students can schedule appointments with this advisor to suit the timing of their job search.

Both the generalist and specific career advisors contribute to students’ successful navigation of the six phases of the CDC’s Job Search Model.
