GSAS New Student Orientation
Welcome to Fordham’s Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS)! We are so pleased you will be joining us as an incoming graduate student in August.
We have designed a Hybrid Fall 2021 GSAS New Student Orientation, developing a schedule of events that will deliver essential information to new graduate students through in-person and digital asynchronous components. The in-person events will occur at both the Rose Hill and Lincoln Center campuses to accommodate student needs, and the learning platform Blackboard will host the asynchronous portion. All students who register for orientation will receive information about how to access both components of the program as the event nears.
At new student orientation, staff members and fellow students from several Arts and Sciences programs will introduce you to resources, programs and services that will help you make the most of your Fordham experience.
Graduate student orientations will be held in-person on:
- Friday, August 27, 2021 | 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. | Rose Hill Campus
ALL new GSAS students are invited to attend this comprehensive orientation session. We highly recommend that you attend to receive information on many offices that support student life at the university, including the GSAS Office for Student Professional Development, the Graduate Student Association, Career Services, Fordham Libraries, Counseling and Psychological Services, and more. You will also have an opportunity to mingle with faculty members and to meet peers in your program cohorts. If you attend the orientation session at Lincoln Center you are NOT required to attend orientation at Rose Hill, but it is recommended that you also attend the Rose Hill session.
- Tuesday, August 31, 2021 | 5 – 8 p.m. | Lincoln Center Campus
Tuesday’s session is geared towards international students and students who work full-time and/or are unable to attend the full-day session at Rose Hill. You will receive an introduction to GSAS staff, an overview of GSAS resources, and an opportunity to learn more about several student-facing support services at the University.
For international students: Current international students will discuss their experience transitioning to life at Fordham and the United States via one of two panels featuring current students who will dialogue with new students regarding their experience in graduate school alongside their life in the New York City metropolitan region and the United States more broadly. The Lincoln Center orientation program will feature a panel specific to international students’ experiences; international students will also be available to engage with students at the Rose Hill orientation session.
Finally, we encourage you to visit our New Admitted Students web page, a centralized hub of information just for new GSAS students. There you will find information on everything from housing options to course registration to community resources.
We look forward to welcoming you into our student community! Please direct questions to Christine Kelly, Ph.D., Assistant Dean for Student Professional Development, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
