The non-credit, open-enrollment professional development certificate programs offered by the Fordham Real Estate Institute (REI) are designed to help current and up-and-coming industry professionals move to the next level in their careers. No application required. Our industry-recognized courses deliver practical, professional skills and knowledge in a short period of time.

Real Estate Finance and Investment

The Professional Certificate in Real Estate Finance and Investment program provides the core concepts and specialized skills needed to evaluate income-producing properties, assess financing options, calculate investment returns, and ultimately, make informed real estate investment decisions. This includes the property income statement, leases, financial analysis, Excel modeling, valuation, capitalization rates, direct capitalization, discounted cash flow analysis, debt finance, private equity and investment analysis, and more.

This certificate credential is issued to students who successfully complete five 6-week courses (either in-person or online) or two 1-week summer intensives. With prior approval from the program director, students may obtain this certificate credential through a mix of one-week intensives and online courses. Students may take courses without seeking a full certificate.

Real Estate Development

The Professional Certificate in Real Estate Development program examines the interdisciplinary, high-stakes nature of real estate development and the mix of specialized analytical, financial, and organizational skills needed for successful project completion. This includes site selection, land use, entitlements, market and feasibility analysis, budgets, construction loan finance, construction, and income-producing property types (office, multifamily, and mixed use).

This certificate credential is issued to students who successfully complete four 6-week courses (either in-person or online) or two 1-week summer intensives. With prior approval from the program director, students may obtain this certificate credential through a mix of one-week intensives and online courses. Students may take courses without seeking a full certificate.

Commercial Property Management

The Professional Certificate in Commercial Property Management provides the core competencies and specialized skills to professionally plan and manage commercial office buildings and corporate workspace for real estate owners, businesses, and third-party management companies.

Residential Property Management

The Professional Certificate in Residential Property Management program provides the core competencies and specialized skills to manage and optimize day-to-day operations, perform long-term planning consistent with ownership goals, and ultimately, maximize the value of income-producing, multifamily properties. This includes investment strategies, market analysis, budgets, management proposals and plans, property management, health and safety issues, local laws and codes, capital improvement projects, and more.

Construction Project Management

The Professional Certificate in Construction Project Management program provides the core competencies and specialized skills needed to professionally plan, manage, and deliver quality construction projects on time, within budget, and ultimately, with high client satisfaction. This includes project delivery methods, contracts, general contracting, construction management, scheduling, estimating, budgets, cost control, safety management, change orders, quality control, claims, dispute resolution, and more.

Construction Methods and Materials

The Professional Certificate in Construction Methods and Materials program examines the specialized building materials and construction systems used in the manufacture of commercial real estate assets. This program provides practical knowledge to support the successful execution of projects and advancement in the field. Courses will cover construction drawings, building core and shell methods and materials, building interiors methods and materials, and mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) systems.

HVAC Systems Design

The accelerated Professional Certificate in HVAC Systems Design provides the core competencies and specialized skills to design Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems for commercial and multi-family building applications. Topics covered include load calculations, ventilation and air distribution, ductwork and piping distribution systems, energy usage and efficiency, code and design standards, equipment classification, sizing, selection and components, comparison of heating and cooling systems and their components, life cycle costing and value considerations, the design process and project coordination, and more.

Electrical Systems Design

The accelerated Professional Certificate in Electrical Systems Design provides the core competencies and specialized skills to design electrical systems for commercial and multi-family building applications. Topics include electrical principles and their application to electrical equipment, electrical distribution systems; conductors, raceways, and branch circuits, feeder, voltage drop, transformer and service load calculations, overcurrent and short circuit protection, grounding and grounding fault protection, power factor, energy usage, and efficiency, code and design standards, lighting design and calculations, standby emergency systems, and the design process and project coordination, and more.

Plumbing Systems Design

The accelerated Professional Certificate in Plumbing Systems Design provides the core competencies and specialized skills to design plumbing systems for commercial and multi-family building applications. Topics covered include pressurized water distribution systems, water chemistry, and treatment, hot and cold water distribution, valves and fixtures, natural gas distribution, building drainage systems, storm water drainage, sanitary waste, disposal, and more.
