Application Guidelines: Clare Boothe Luce Graduate Fellowship Scholarship

The Clare Boothe Luce application consists of:

  • an application form
  • a personal essay
  • your CV or resumé
  • an unofficial transcript
  • two letters of recommendation emailed directly to ClareBootheLuce@fordham.edu and to your department chair by the recommending faculty members

Application Form

As soon as you decide to apply for a CBL Fellowship, fill out an application form to indicate your interest.  The remaining documents can be uploaded to your application file at any time after that until the cutoff on Friday March 15, 2019 at 11:59 p.m.

Personal Essay

Please upload only .doc, .docx, or .pdf format files; the size of an individual file cannot exceed 20MB.

How do your experiences and aspirations complement the purposes of the Clare Boothe Luce Program for Women in Science and Engineering? Please consult Luce Foundation/ The Clare Boothe Luce Program for a description of the program and include the following:

  • describe your research interests and involvement
  • provide examples/evidence of your commitment to research and pursuit of an academic/research career
  • discuss what you have done and might do in the future to foster the role of women in science, particularly at Fordham

Required of: All applicants not currently receiving CBL support 

Length: Minimum of 1, maximum of 3 double-spaced pages, 12-point Times New Roman

Header: Your Full Name – CBL Fellowship Application 2019

Style: Must be sufficiently specific, detailed and scholarly to satisfy reviewers from within your discipline, but clear, concise and accessible enough to be understood by reviewers who will also come from outside your discipline.

Purpose: To convince reviewers from among Fordham faculty, deans and chairs that you are actively engaged in research, seeking mentoring, and making progress appropriate for your level of study toward achieving the independence as a researcher that will enable you to:

  • successfully complete your degree in your current program
  • pursue a career in teaching and research
  • contribute beyond your own professional achievement toward the CBL Program’s goal of increasing the participation of women in the sciences and engineering

Your CV or resumé should be updated to include all relevant activities through the current date.  If you do not already have one prepared, an online search will bring up various articles on the “how to” of each.  

Unofficial Transcript

Academic Records can send you an unofficial transcript (not signed and sealed) if you use their Request for Transcript form
