Unpaid Leave of Absence for Unvaccinated Employees
If you will not be receiving the COVID-19 vaccine and have not been approved for a Reasonable Workplace Accommodation, you must apply for an unpaid leave of absence for the fall semester in order to retain certain Fordham benefits. Please complete the Unpaid Leave of Absence for Unvaccinated Employees Form by August 2, 2021.
Employees must notify their supervisors/academic leaders (department/area chair, dean, and Office of the Provost) before completing this form.
The period for the unpaid leave begins on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, and ends on Friday, December 31, 2021. Please see below for more information.
Supervisors/academic leaders (department/area chair, dean, and Office of the Provost) will not assign employees work during the period of the unpaid leave.
Access to Campus
Access to campuses will be suspended during the period of unpaid leave.
Administrators and staff may reduce the period of unpaid leave by utilizing their accrued vacation or personal time at the beginning of this unpaid leave. Vacation days cannot be utilized intermittently during the period of leave. Check with your department administrator for vacation accruals.
Vacation time will not accrue during this unpaid leave.
Sick time will not accrue during this unpaid leave.
Employees will have the opportunity to continue their medical, dental, vision and basic life insurance benefits during the unpaid portion of the leave. Employees will be responsible for paying the premium cost-share amount that is currently deducted from their paycheck. They may pay the cost-share prior to the start of the leave, or upon return to work with an installment plan. If you wish to continue supplemental life insurance, then you must pay the premium prior to going on unpaid leave.
Tuition Remission and 403(b) contributions will be suspended during this unpaid leave.
Access to Other University Resources
Access to University electronic applications, including Fordham email will be suspended at the start of the employee's leave. If the employee is also a current student or alumni, a new email will be generated for use during the period of the unpaid leave.
Years of Service
Members covered by a collective bargaining agreement will retain seniority during this unpaid leave.
Administrators will retain their years of service during this unpaid leave.
