Learn to Brew the Perfect Beer
Something’s brewing at Fordham – a beer program! Fordham Westchester has partnered with local brewing experts to introduce the community to the FBI – the Fordham Brewing Institute that is.
Whether you are new to brewing, or have been brewing beer for years or even decades, Fordham’s programs can help you understand the brewing process, how to avoid common pitfalls, and pro tips for exponentially improving the taste of your beer.
We are launching with two courses:
Beer Brewing 101: The Ultimate Beginners Guide
Have you thought about brewing your own beer but don’t know where to start? Then sign up for Brewing 101. Designed for everyone looking to get introduced to brewing beer at home. This class will give students an overview of the different beer styles, the ingredients needed and learn the step-by-step process of brewing in a friendly and hands-on format. In one Saturday afternoon, we’ll take you through the steps for success in brewing a classic beer using the “Extract Brewing” method which produces tasty beer with few complications. We’ll even give you suggestions on the best stuff to buy if you don’t already have what’s needed. *No equipment is necessary – just come and learn. This is a great introduction to what may become a lifelong hobby, or even a career. Makes a great holiday gift.

Practical Brewing (Intermediate/Advanced)
Designed for people who have been home brewing for some time or for those who have worked in a brewery and want to advance, this 3-session program takes a deep dive into the ingredients, process, and subtleties in the craft of brewing beer. By breaking down the brewing process step-by-step students will better understand the chemical process of brewing beer, the ingredient profile, flavor characteristics, and how to craft the beer they desire, while avoiding the most common pitfalls. Students will be left with the satisfaction of creating something from ingredients and a process that they understand.
Co-taught by the president and head brewers at Broken Bow Brewery in Tuckahoe, New York, this class allows students the opportunity to receive expert advice on perfecting their flavor. This intermediate/advanced level program uses the all-grain method – the purest form of beer-making and the method by which you can greatly influence the outcome of the beer. No equipment is needed – class demonstrations will use a professional pilot system. Must be 21 or older to participate.

Monday, March 6 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Saturday, March 11 "Brew Day" 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
Monday, March 13 6:30-8:30 p.m.
