Tokumbo Shobowale
Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer, and Treasurer
Tokumbo Shobowale joined Fordham in October 2023 as the University’s senior vice president, chief financial officer, and treasurer. He leads the divisions of finance, IT, and human resources. A longtime finance leader in higher education, he also has extensive experience in government and public service.
For a decade prior to joining Fordham, Shobowale was the executive vice president for business and operations at the New School, where he instituted long-term budget planning and was known for his commitment to greater transparency and shared governance. He managed a portfolio that included IT and human resources, and he oversaw the management of the institution’s financial resources and physical infrastructure, working closely with colleagues to navigate financial constraints while identifying new opportunities and improving the university’s credit outlook.
Before entering higher education, he served as director of infrastructure for New York City’s Initiative on Rebuilding and Resiliency, a response to Hurricane Sandy. He also served as chief of staff to the deputy mayor for economic development, overseeing more than a dozen agencies, and as chief operating officer of the New York City Economic Development Corporation. Prior to his public service, he was a management consultant at McKinsey and Company and for the United Nations, and he served with nongovernmental organizations working to provide renewable energy to rural communities in Central America.
Shobowale is a Minneapolis native who has spent most of his adult life in New York City. He earned an M.B.A. from the MIT Sloan School of Management, an M.A. from the Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs, and an A.B. from Stanford University.
