The Donald McGannon Communications Research Center

Website: http://www.mcgannoncenter.com

Mission
The McGannon Center is dedicated to furthering understanding of the ethical and social justice dimensions of media and communication technologies, particularly how such technologies affect the distribution of wealth, opportunities, and privileges within society. The Center engages in, sponsors, and promotes interdisciplinary academic research that provides an empirical foundation for informed technological development, policy-making, and debate. We are committed to diverse participation and representing an array of perspectives throughout our activities. McGannon serves as a hub at Fordham University for faculty, scholars, students, and visitors interested in the social, legal, political, economic, and cultural dimensions of communication technologies and emerging media. Our audience includes academics, policy-makers, and the broader public at local, regional, national, and international levels.

History
The Center was started via the efforts of Everett Parker and Jack Phelan, of the Department of Communication and Media Studies. A gift from friends and family of Donald McGannon provided the initial funding for the launch of the Center. Mr. McGannon was a public interest-minded broadcast industry executive and friend of Everett Parker.
