John Fortunato gave a talk on "The intersection of agenda-setting and campaign finance in a social media world" at a conference titled New Media, Old Money: Digital Technology, Social Media and the New Challenges to Campaigning and Democracy, held by the Swiss Embassy in Washington D.C.
John Carey played host to a visiting delegation of students from Northwestern University in Qatar and spoke about the changing environment for media industries in the United States. He also presented a paper on "Economic and Social Patterns in the Adoption of New Media," at the Information and New Media Conference in Belgrade, Serbia.
Teaching Innovation
Meghann Drury-Grogan designed and teaches “Gaining a Global Business Perspective in Galway”, a global immersion for the Executive MBA, which focuses on the business, culture, historic, and economic perspectives in Ireland. It includes. It includes site visits of start-up and multinational organizations.
Travis Russ designed and facilitated The Storytelling Project, a one-semester graduate course designed to teach students how to craft and deliver effective stories. Some students who completed the course performed their stories live on air on the NPR affiliate WFUV. Professor Russ received the Gabelli Award for Teaching Innovation.
Bozena Mierzejewska was the recipient of the Dean’s Award for Teaching Innovation and won the best paper award at the Social Media and Society International Conference. She also organized and hosted (with Axel Roepnack) The World Media Economics and Management Conference.
Meghann Drury-Grogan designed, teaches, and coordinates the Career Exploration IP (Integrated Project). This new course teaches students the skills necessary to advance career development, e.g., networking, professional presentation, and presence. They learn to market themselves through networking, interviews, resumes, and social media.
