2023 Awards for Faculty Members & Administrators Rose Hill

  • This award honors a member of the Gabelli School faculty, administration or staff who has made a defining and innovative contribution. He or she has advanced the pursuit of one or more of the School’s main goals: academic excellence, global education, personal and professional development, and classroom innovation.

Bob Daly is the winner of this year’s award. He is one of our very own in the Gabelli Dean’s Office, who has given so much of himself to the community.

    A nominator wrote:

Bob is a constant source of positivity and is always a team player. We can rely on him to always support GSB initiatives and he often takes on additional projects with a creative twist. His efforts are often not visible but his impact is important. We, as a School, should honor quiet leaders who lead for the sake of making a positive impact. This is Bob Daly.

  • This award recognizes a faculty member who embodies the Jesuit value of caring for others by going the extra mile to help students develop not only professionally, but as whole people.

Brent J. Horton, J.D., the winner of this year’s award, is an associate professor and area chair, Law and Ethics, at the Gabelli School of Business. Professor Horton teaches courses in business law, business organizations, and corporate and securities law. In 2009, he received the Cura Personalis award, presented to the faculty member who best embodies the Jesuit principle of "care of the whole person" by nurturing and challenging students' hearts and minds. Today he continues to embody that spirit.

  • This award is presented to two faculty members—one full-time and one adjunct—in recognition of their impact on students during their college years and into their futures.

James Russell Kelly, the winner of this year’s award, is the director of the Gabelli Center for Global Security Analysis, teaches courses in value investing and global investments. He also is the faculty advisor to the University's Student Managed Investment Fund, through which Gabelli School of Business undergraduates invest $1 million of Fordham's actual endowment in a variety of domestic and international asset classes.

    A student nominator wrote:

Professor Kelly's mentorship through the Student Managed Investment Fund is unmatched. He goes above and beyond to create a culture where 28 students can become best friends and learn to love the markets. When Professor Kelly speaks, everyone listens.

Michael Gatto, the winner of this year’s award, teaches courses on credit analysis, and distressed value & special situation investing. His courses, coupled with his professional experience with companies like Goldman Sachs and Silver Point Capital, have been revered by students.

    A student nominatorwrote:
Professor Gatto has long been a great mentor for his students. His professional skills empowered hundreds and hundreds of his students to achieve their dream; his humor brings light and fun to Rose Hill on a Thursday night; his caring personality makes students exchange ideas and thoughts comfortably. Professor Gatto will be a perfect candidate for this reward.

  • Magis translates to the word “more.” This award is given to a faculty member who strives for more than excellence in all that he/she does.

This year’s winner, Robert Chiang, Ph.D., joined Fordham in 2008, and became an integral part of the Information Systems Area. His professional experience on topics such as business process reengineering, project/program management, and system development methodology improvement, coupled with his research interests in software process improvement, information-systems economics and e-commerce design, demonstrate his ability to excel in all that he does. Our students are incredibly fortunate to have him share his knowledge with them.

  • This award is presented to an administrator or faculty member from another part of the university who goes the extra mile for our business school.

Rosa Pugliese, the 2023 winner of this award is an assistant director in the Academic Records Office. She works tirelessly for students at each of the Gabelli School campuses, and is an integral part of training our new staff.

    A nominator wrote:

Rosa was mentioned by so many of my colleagues as the “go-to” person in Academic Records. After meeting her, I knew this was the absolute truth. Rosa is always available to answer any questions, no matter how big or small, and she is always willing to go the extra mile in her explanations.
