4. International Students: Complete the I-20 Request Process

If you are an international student applying for an F-1 student visa, transferring your current F-1 student visa to Fordham University, or changing your visa status, you will need to submit several documents to Admissions in order to receive an I-20/DS-2019. Once you complete the Intent to Enroll process as outlined in your letter of admission to Fordham GSAS, you will receive an email from Admissions with detailed instructions for how to submit your documents online in your Application Status portal.  The required documents include the following:

  • Completed Application for Certificate of Eligibility (AFCOE)
  • Copy of current passport
  • Documents providing verification of adequate financial resources to meet the tuition, fees, and living expenses of your full-time program (such as bank statement, bank letter, scholarship award, etc.)
  • Letter of Admission to GSAS

After you submit your documents, Admissions will forward them to the Office of International Students (OIS) for review and processing. Review and processing of your documents typically will take approximately two to three weeks from the date the Office of Admissions has forwarded your documents to the OIS. Once your I-20 has been processed, the OIS will send shipping instructions via email.

Attn: F-1 visa transfer students

Please note that the OIS cannot begin processing your documents until your SEVIS release date has passed and they have received your F-1 transfer form.

For more information about the required document for the I-20/DS-2019, please visit the Immigration and Visa Information page of the Office of International Services (OIS) website.

There may be a long wait for securing visa appointments in many U.S consulates around the world. Therefore, we recommend that you begin the visa process as soon as possible. See the Visa Appointment Wait Times page of the Travel.State.Gov website.

By no later than the end of your first semester enrolled with GSAS.

5. Submit Official Transcripts

You must submit official transcripts from each college/university you have attended. Your transcripts must confirm degree conferral for all degrees earned (undergraduate and graduate).

To be accepted as official, a transcript must be submitted directly from the issuing institution using a secure electronic delivery method or via an authorized agent such as the National Student Clearinghouse or Parchment to this email: [email protected].

For those institutions that do not offer electronic delivery, transcripts may be submitted in hard copy by the issuing institution in a sealed envelope to:

GSAS Office of Admissions
Fordham University
Keating Hall, Room 216
441 E. Fordham Road
Bronx, NY 10458

For international students: You may be required to submit an official transcript evaluation for each college/university you have attended outside the US or Canada. Admissions will notify you if this is the case. Transcript evaluations include a course-by-course analysis and must confirm degree conferral for all degrees earned (undergraduate and graduate). We will accept evaluations from either of the two agencies: World Education Services, Inc. (WES) or Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE).

7. Health Insurance

All full-time degree-seeking students are required to carry appropriate medical insurance while enrolled at Fordham University.

For students who do not have access to health insurance coverage, the University offers a health insurance group plan for both undergraduate and graduate students. Please sign up for the Fordham Student Health Insurance Plan by the deadline date featured in the left column.

For students who have health insurance coverage and do not require the Fordham insurance, waive your participation by the deadline date featured in the left column. You are required to provide proof of health insurance coverage during the waiver process.

Please note: Failure to waive health insurance coverage by the deadline date will result in premium charges appearing on your E-Bill account.

See the Insurance page of the Fordham University Health Center website for more information about the health plan. International students can learn more about their insurance requirements on Fordham's Office of International Students Health Insurance.
