The Field Instruction Department has developed a number of resources to provide our students and field instructors with the tools to navigate the fieldwork experience in an organized and informed manner.

  • Seminar in Field Instruction (SIFI)

    Social workers interested in providing field instruction to BSW or MSW students at any school of social work in the tristate area must complete the Seminar in Field Instruction (SIFI) or take the seminar while supervising their first student. (Field instructors must also be licensed, master's-level social workers with at least three years post-master's experience.)

    This free seminar equips new field instructors with the knowledge and skills to effectively supervise and teach social work students.

    The seminar meets for 12 sessions during the academic year, bimonthly in the fall and monthly in the spring. Sessions last two hours and are held at our Manhattan, Westchester, and Molloy campuses. There is no charge for the course.
