GSAS Diploma Ceremony
The 2022 University Commencement took place on Saturday, May 21, at the Rose Hill Campus. All graduates were invited to attend the University Commencement ceremony.
The Graduate School of Arts and Sciences Diploma Ceremony was held in the University Church immediately following the Commencement (approximately 12:30 p.m.)
Morning Commencement: When you arrive at the GSAS check-in area between Spellman and Tierney Halls wearing your cap and gown (carrying, not wearing, hoods), please look for the GSAS Marshals and they will instruct you to line-up. The procession begins at 9:45 a.m., so please plan to arrive no later than 9:20 a.m. so that you have plenty of time before the ceremony to line-up. Graduates should all be lined-up no later than 9:30 a.m.
GSAS Diploma Ceremony: Graduates will report to the University Church prior to the Diploma Ceremony. We recommend graduates who are attending the diploma ceremony only to arrive on campus no later than 12 noon, taking into consideration the large crowds on campus and lack of parking at that time. Public transportation is recommended.
Diploma Ceremony Tickets
Each GSAS student who has applied for graduation is alloted two (2) tickets for the University Church ceremony. You may begin to claim up to two (2) tickets through Friday, May 13, 2022. When claiming tickets, you will also be able to leave a recording of the pronunciation of your name so we can ensure that your name is read properly when you are called to receive your diploma. You will receive an email confirmation once your order is placed.
Please note, seating in the University Church is limited and each graduate participating in the GSAS Diploma Ceremony will be allotted two (2) tickets for their guests. All guests over the age of two will need a ticket. Graduates do not need a ticket for themselves, but are required to wear their cap and gown to participate.
Tickets may be printed out and physically presented at the church or can be scanned from a mobile or electronic device. If you have concerns about printing or accessing your tickets please email Dean Smith at email@example.com by Thursday, May 19, 2022. Each ticket has its own unique barcode so a ticket can be used once only.

Please thoroughly review the vaccine requirement policy prior to Commencement Day. All people attending Fordham’s Commencement or GSAS Diploma Ceremony must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Additionally, Fordham requires proof of a COVID-19 booster shot for all those eligible to receive it. All guests must provide in-person verification of vaccination against COVID-19. For detailed information on the Vaccine Requirement, please see Vaccine Requirements on the University Commencement page.
Diploma Ceremony Photographs
The best opportunities for individual photographs are at the Diploma Ceremony. There will also be a professional photographer at the Diploma Ceremony who will photograph the graduates. Students will receive proofs from the photographer and may order prints directly from the company.
Island Photography will take a photograph of each graduate in front of the GSAS banner on the altar. Doctoral graduates will also have a photograph taken when they are being hooded by their mentor. Island Photography has developed an online registration page to make it quick and convenient for family to view photos. If you would like to receive a direct link to the photos, visit the Island Photography website to register. You may register several email addresses to allow all of your family and friends to receive a direct link to this event. Images will be posted within 72 hours of the ceremony. All inquiries should be made to Island Photography at 800-869-0908. Purchase is optional.
