Budget Justification (Required)

Please provide a narrative of no more than 300 words justifying the need for the funds you are requesting and including any cost savings strategies you are employing sucn as choosing economical modes of transportation, and sharing costs with fellow students.

Given the scope of my trip, the budget I have provided is very modest and will adequately serve the needs of my research. I booked my roundtrip flight to Paris well in advance in order to take advantage of early prices and minimize the cost of travel. I will soon book my train tickets and reserve a bed for four nights at the Young and Happy Youth Hostel in order to take advantage of the current low prices. The hostel I have selected is located in the Latin Quarter of Paris, which is within walking distance of nearly all the sites on my itinerary and will minimize my transportation costs.

All of the accommodations I have selected include breakfast, access to a communal kitchen, and free internet access. The Airbnb homestay I have arranged in Laon is also very centrally located and easily accessible from the city's train station. The home is adjacent to the cathedral and is itself a historic building, partly dating back to the 13th century.

My host speaks English and is a self-proclaimed heritage enthusiast of the medieval city of Laon, and he has agreed to give me a free tour of the medieval city during my stay.

Since most of the sites I am visiting are churches or other active religious institutions, I will be able to visit them for free. I am planning to visit a few museums and arrange for a few special access tours of certain historic monuments on my itinerary, for which I will have to pay a small fee.

I will be able to take advantage of reduced youth pricing for train tickets and some museums since I am under the age of 26. On my final night in Paris from Reims in the evening and stay at an Airbnb within walking distance of the train station. This station will also be my direct connection to the airport the following morning.
