Recognizing that literacy is a multi-faceted tool which enriches learning in all subject areas, we draw on the new literacies lens to integrate technology into innovative and traditional learning activities.

The program enhances teachers’ understandings of reading-writing-listening-speaking-visualizing-performing connections. Graduates are proficient in promoting the effective use of skills and strategies with students from diverse backgrounds who become confident, independent, successful lifelong learners.

Candidates are typically teachers, teacher assistants, or literacy specialists serving in local schools, attending the program on a part-time basis while some enrollees are full-time students. Two field-based supervised practicum experiences are capstones to the program.
