Dr. Kirsten Klein earned her PhD in Counseling Psychology from the University of Florida and her MS in Clinical Psychology from the University of Central Florida. During her PhD program, Dr. Klein was a research fellow at the UF Health Cancer Institute, where she co-directed the Cancer Disparities Research Collaborative. Dr. Klein completed her pre-doctoral psychology internship at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School, where she continued to engage in research focused on mitigating physical and mental health disparities in Black communities. Prior to joining the faculty at Fordham University, she served as a Postdoctoral Associate in the Department of Applied Psychology at New York University. 

Dr. Klein’s research aims to advance health equity in racial and ethnic minority communities, with a specific emphasis on co-occurring physical and mental health outcomes in Black communities. Her research utilizes mixed-methods approaches and community-based and liberatory frameworks. Dr. Klein’s primary research areas include:

• Understanding how social determinants of health and systemic discrimination shape health outcomes.
• Exploring lived experience in the adjustment to chronic illness, health behaviors, and coping.
• Co-creating culturally-tailored interventions to promote holistic health and wellness.
