Welcome to Wellness Week at Fordham University with GSAS, FCRH, and GSB!

How’s your semester going?

No matter what the answer is, Wellness Week at Fordham can make it better. This is a campus-wide effort inspired by cura personalis “care for the whole person.” Fordham University has resources dedicated to every student’s holistic well-being and from February 13-17, 2023, these resources are being highlighted and YOU are encouraged to participate, even if you’ve never been to these types of events before.

Use the eight dimensions of holistic wellness to improve your well-being during Wellness Week. Scan the QR code at each activity to get points*.

The week’s activities are:

  • Scavenger Hunt - 15 points. Find useful resources around campus and on Fordham University’s website. Participate in the scavenger hunt.  
  • Interact with resources to improve your holistic wellness this week. Attend any of the events below to get points. Each event’s description, including location, can be found below the calendar.

  • Intellectual and Environmental Wellness
    Scavenger Hunt - 15 points. Find useful resources around campus and on Fordham University’s website. Participate in the scavenger hunt
  • Physical Wellness
    Ramfit center classes - 10 points. View the class schedule. Choose a class that interests you and make sure you scan the QR code!

  • Join the Center for Community Engaged Learning (CCEL) for a conversation on environmental wellness and sustainability. - 20 points

  • Robert Parmach, Ph.D “Mission in Action” - 20 points. 
    Food insecurity sandwich-making session for local food pantries.

  • Kevin Mirabile, Ph.D - “Financial Literacy” - 20 points.
    We will discuss how a lack of financial literacy impacts individuals and the economy and how you can avoid some of the pitfalls commonly associated with those who are not financially literate. We will discuss what students can do today to prepare themselves for financial independence once they graduate. The lecture will cover some of the basics terms and tools needed to make healthy decisions related to savings and investment, budgets, credit cards, insurance, and healthcare once you are on your own.

  • John Abbamonte - ”Stress Management 101: The What and How of Dealing with Stress” -20 points.
    This session will focus on providing psychoeducation surrounding ways in which stress can manifest and impact us in daily life. Another focus of this session will be to provide tips for managing and transforming stress into growth.

    A practical and hands on approach to being present regardless of presenting circumstances. Participants will explore how mindfulness and self compassion can improve wellbeing.

  • Dean Chelsea Smith - “The Hidden Curriculum of Graduate School” - 20 points.
    Come and learn about the hidden curriculum of being a graduate student. During graduate study, we focus on polishing our thesis, dissertation, and other academic milestones; however, other elements contribute to your success as a graduate student. Have you figured out how to submit a conference abstract, prepare a manuscript for publication, or secure an internship? Dean Smith will provide insight into the hidden gems of being a graduating student. Doctoral and Master's students are welcome!

    GSC Wellness Event - 10 points.
    Our very own, Murat Hosgor will lead a dance class, which will be followed by a delicious buffet. We will dance for about an hour and food will be served at 6:00pm in the same room. Wear comfortable clothes and don't be shy! Let’s take a couple of hours for ourselves, move our bodies and have fun. RSVP here

  • Kevin Moncayo - “CV to Resume Workshop” - 20 points.
    Are you a graduate student considering any non-academic or industry jobs? Join the Fordham Career Center, in collaboration with the GSAS, to learn more about how to convert your CV into a resume that stands out to employers, recruiters, and hiring managers! The goal is to explain how we're here to support you in your transition, while presenting on the different components of a great resume. We'll also be featuring a live demonstration of how to change an actual CV into a resume.
