Advanced Certificate in Data Humanities Admissions Information

How to apply for an advanced certificate in data humanities

To ensure that we are able to holistically evaluate the candidate’s suitability for the advanced certificate in data humanities program, the following application components are required:

  • Resume or curriculum vitae (CV). Applicants should submit a resume or CV that details their education, work experience, and any accomplishments of note. Submitted resumes should be in English.
  • Academic transcripts. When you apply, you are required to upload unofficial transcripts from the institution where you earned or will earn your bachelor’s degree, and if applicable, master’s degree, including any institutions where transfer credits counted toward either an undergraduate or graduate-level degree.
If you are offered admission to a GSAS program and accept the offer, you must submit official final transcripts with final grades and the title of the degree conferred. Official transcripts must be received by Fordham GSAS Admissions before the first day of classes
  • Official graduate record examination (GRE) scores. GRE scores are optional for this program. Applicants who wish to submit GRE scores may do so, but scores are not required (scores should be sent directly by the testing service to the Office of Graduate Admissions, Fordham University, Graduate School of Arts and Sciences – Code #2259).
  • Statement of intent. Applicants are required to submit a 500-750-word essay that describes why they want to attend the Advanced Certificate in data humanities program, what their professional goals are, and their candidacy’s unique value proposition. Essays should also be written in English.
  • Supplemental essay (optional). You may choose to answer this optional essay question. Your answer will help the admission committee get a better understanding of your unique perspective and potential contributions to our community.
  • Writing sample. Applicants are required to submit 5-20 pages in length. This essay need not be a piece of Data or Digital Humanities scholarship. We want to see how you approach research in the Humanities.
  • Two letters of recommendation. Applicants are required to name two professional or academic recommenders. Letters should be signed and on official letterhead, submitted directly by the recommender. It is not appropriate to submit letters from family, friends, or others who do not know the applicant in an academic or professional capacity. Applications can be submitted even if Fordham is waiting on the recommender’s submission.
