O’Hare Special Collections Room
William D. Walsh Family Library
Rose Hill Campus
The current work of the Bollandist Society, a Jesuit research institute in Belgium, is the focus of this presentation by the society’s head of development and external relations, Irini de Saint Sernin. One of the oldest institutes in the world, the Bollandist Society has been devoted since 1607 to the critical study of the lives of the saints and their cults. It publishes Analecta Bollandiana, the leading journal on hagiography, as well as two book series and several online databases.
Fordham’s St. Edmund Campion Institute is sponsoring this presentation upon the recommendation of Arturo Sosa, S.J., superior general of the Society of Jesus. The presentation will also touch on a new fellowship from the Belgian American Educational Foundation for a researcher in medieval history, Latin philology, or Byzantine studies. Refreshments will be served.
