Information for Lincoln Center Transfers

NSO Lincoln Center Student Leaders

Welcome to Fordham College at Lincoln Center!

In August and January of each year, we welcome transfer students from institutions all over the globe. Transfer students generally enter Fordham College at Lincoln Center (FCLC) as freshmen or sophomores, depending on how many credits are awarded from their previous institutions. As your academic dean and advisor, I look forward to working with you during this transition period.

All transfer students will receive a Transfer Credit Evaluation explaining how transfer credits are to be counted toward a Fordham degree. An official transcript is required in order to produce an evaluation of your transfer credits. If you have not yet received an evaluation, please have your prior institution send an official electronic transcript to [email protected].

Transfer Credits: FCLC accepts no more than 60 transfer credits on receipt of official transcripts from accredited institutions. To receive credit for courses completed at previous institutions, you must meet the following criteria: the course must carry three or more credits, the course must be equivalent to a course offered at Fordham, and the course grade must be a C or better. Fordham also offers credit for Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate exams. Learn more about Fordham's policies regarding AP and IB exams.

What to Expect at Fordham: In order to receive a Fordham degree, you must complete at least half of your credits and four full semesters at Fordham. As you begin your studies here, your main focus should be to complete the core curriculum, while taking one to two classes in your major. You will meet with your advisor several times during the year to discuss your academic progress, your choice of courses, and any questions related to your intellectual development. At Fordham, we pride ourselves on the challenging classes we offer and the high expectations our professors hold for students. You may find that you need to do more reading, writing, and thinking outside of class than at your previous institution. As you adjust to life at your new academic home, it is important to budget a sufficient amount of time to study.

Declaring a major: A month prior to the start of classes, you will be encouraged to declare your major with the chair/associate chair of the academic department. At that time you will be assigned a faculty academic advisor, who can review your elective credit for major substitutions.

Appointments: To discuss your transfer credits, plan your schedule for the upcoming semester, and get answers to your questions about academic life at Fordham, please schedule an appointment to meet with me. To request a meeting, please send an email to [email protected]. During the summer of 2020, I can meet with you by phone, Zoom, or Skype. Meeting times are available five days a week during business hours.

Once again, welcome to our Fordham College at Lincoln Center! I look forward to meeting you soon and showing you what your future at Fordham can be.

Sincerely,

The New Student Orientation Team
