Description: The Department of Biological Sciences at Fordham University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track Lecturer in Biological Sciences with expertise in evidence-based and inclusive undergraduate STEM pedagogy, beginning Fall 2026. This is a union position.

The successful candidate will contribute to the teaching and coordination of introductory biology lecture and laboratory courses serving majors, pre-health students, and interdisciplinary science programs. The standard teaching load in the collective bargaining agreement is 4-4, but you may receive course releases for other assignments.

In addition to teaching responsibilities, the Lecturer will serve as a multi-section course coordinator for introductory biology and associated laboratories, helping to ensure consistency in learning outcomes, assessment practices, laboratory instruction, and student support across sections. The successful candidate will collaborate with faculty and instructional staff to strengthen the undergraduate curriculum, lead course redesign alignment and implementation efforts, apply evidence-based teaching practices, support student retention and success in gateway STEM courses, and contribute to ongoing assessment and curricular improvement initiatives.

We seek candidates who demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching excellence, inclusive pedagogical practice, and student mentorship within a diverse learning community. Experience leading course redesign initiatives and implementing evidence-based instructional practices is especially valued. Relevant experience may include participation in programs focused on scientific teaching and inclusive STEM pedagogy, such as the National Institute for Scientific Teaching (NIST), other evidence-based scientific teaching initiatives, or related professional development and training programs.

Responsibilities

  • Teach introductory biology lecture and laboratory courses
    • Coordinate multi-section introductory biology and laboratory curricular materials with the Lab Manager
    • Lead and implement course redesign initiatives grounded in evidence-based pedagogy
    • Contribute to curriculum development, assessment, and pedagogical innovation efforts, including extramural funding efforts
    • Collaborate with faculty, laboratory staff, and undergraduate program leadership to enhance retention and learning outcomes

Qualifications

Required:
• Ph.D. in Biological Sciences or a closely related field by the start date
• Demonstrated commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching
• Experience with evidence-based and inclusive pedagogical practices
• Experience contributing to or leading course redesign and curricular implementation efforts

Preferred:
• Experience coordinating multi-section courses or laboratory programs
• Experience mentoring undergraduate students, teaching assistants, or instructors
• Participation in professional development programs focused on scientific teaching, inclusive pedagogy, or undergraduate STEM education reform
• Interest in curriculum assessment and STEM student success initiatives
