Focused Externships
Introducing Three Focused Externships
In focused externships, you do not have to find your own placement. The Program offers three settings through which you can participate and earn credit.

NYC Council Externship
In the New York City Council Externship, you will work directly with the lawyers who serve the City's legislative body. If you wish to gain valuable experience in government and improve your legal skills, this is the place to be. You will conduct legal research, draft legal memoranda and legislation, prepare sections of committee briefing papers, and attend council meetings and hearings.
Housing Litigation Externship NEW
In the Housing Litigation Externship, placements will be at Housing Conservation Coordinators in Manhattan and Bronx Legal Services. Externs will represent low-income tenants who are facing eviction. Fieldwork will include direct client contact and court appearances in Housing Court, providing tenant defense under the supervision of experienced housing attorneys.

Government Civil Litigation Externship NEW
Fieldwork for the Government Civil Litigation externship will be performed in the United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York (Civil Division). Students will be exposed to all aspects of litigation, including taking depositions, conducting witness interviews, negotiating, and participating in arbitrations, trials, and appeals.
