All NMDD majors are required to complete at least one internship during the course of their undergraduate careers. Our unique location in the heart of Manhattan allows us to build bridges with a wide range of organizations across myriad sectors of the local economy, placing our students in digital divisions of major corporations, start-ups, non-profit organizations, and city offices.
Students may complete the internship requirement either during the school term or during the summer. In combination with the internship itself, they enroll in our Internship Seminar, a weekly workshop designed to link the collective classroom with students' internship experiences. The Seminar aims to expand their understanding of lessons learned on the job, helping them to rcognize and analyze valuable experiences, identify and connect with potential mentors, and better understand the complex dynamics of the creative workplace and the ever-evolving digital field.
NMDD works closely with Fordham Career Services to help students secure appropriate internships and to facilitate eventual job placement. The program will hold an annual Internship Employer Reception for all supervisors who have worked with NMDD students beginning in 2016-17, and will also launch its yearly Internship Experience Survey, a feedback mechanism and data tool designed to continually evolve and refine the integrated internship experience.
An ongoing internship blog enables a collective history of internship experiences and insights to be shared among students, semester to semester, year upon year:
