ReImagining Higher Education
Our broad vision is to contribute to the creation of an innovative and connected culture at Fordham, equipped to reimagine the Jesuit University for the 21st Century. We further aim to ready faculty, staff, students, and community members to discover and invent how to prepare students for a world in flux. As a result, we have challenged ourselves to develop a deeper understanding of the needs of today’s students; of the relationship between academic and non-academic formation; and of the connections between teaching, learning, research, and real-world outcomes in complex and inclusive ways, as connected to our place in the urban and global neighborhoods.
We were awarded an internal grant, revolving around the notion of reimagining higher education, and it includes a Reading Group, which consists of a syllabus built around Cathy Davidson’s book, The New Education, as well as an Incubator, in an effort to design innovations specifically for the Fordham context. A call for participants open to the entire Fordham community was held for both components, and the initiative kicks off January 2020, with selected participants meeting for the Reading Group and the Incubator. The idea behind this multi-year initiative is to:
Engage and encourage active learners;
Study and debate recent literature on the future of higher education in order to build a sustainable and anti-racist institution;
- Design recipes for innovation in research, teaching, and pedagogy.
