Rams You’ll Recognize

A 22-year-old Denzel Washington plays Othello opposite Diane Hammarth, one of two actresses who played Desdemona in the 1977 Fordham production.

Denzel Washington ’77

Denzel’s career as one of the greatest actors of the 20th and 21st centuries started in the Fordham Theatre program. He even played Othello in a 1977 Fordham production—a role he recently reprised on Broadway for a full-circle NYC moment.

Lana Del Rey ’08

Known as Elizabeth Grant when she was a student, Lana majored in philosophy. She returned in 2011 to perform a short set in our WFUV studios before earning multiple awards and a reputation as one of the greatest living songwriters.

Vince Lombardi ’37

The future Hall of Famer arrived at Fordham on a football scholarship in 1933, and his infectious enthusiasm and will to win set him on a path to greatness. You might recognize his name from the Super Bowl trophy.

Mario Gabelli ’65

A philanthropist, investor, and CEO of his own firm, GAMCO Investors, Mario Gabelli earned a Bachelor of Science in accounting at Fordham. He shares his wisdom, experience, and support with Rams studying business, and the school is named in his honor.

Regina Hall ’92

Before starring in TV shows and films like Scary Movie, Regina Hall majored in English at Fordham. She came back to campus as the 2025 Commencement speaker to share how a Jesuit education in NYC helped shape her as an actor and beyond.
