Non-Credit Course
In this course, students will learn introductory skills in planning, writing, filming and editing digital video productions. Students will work in small crews to successfully create two digital video projects. The course will also include two field trips to one or more of the following: working film/television facilities, a local film festival, a film/media museum.
Students will:
- Learn how to properly plan and prepare for a video project (pre-production)
- Write short film/television projects (pre-production)
- Learn how to use cameras, microphones, and other equipment
- Successfully film their projects (production)
- Successfully edit their projects (post-production)
Overall Takeaways
Students will come away from this class with a wonderful introductory knowledge of film/television pre-production, production and post-production. This will give them a terrific basis for continuing to pursue film and television production in their undergraduate journey, as well as other areas of study, such as broadcasting, journalism, digital technologies and emerging media, new media, marketing, public relations and many more areas.
Instructor's Bio
Heidi C. Bordogna (Director/Writer/Producer, Professor) is the producer of the feature films, Asockalypse! and Confidence Game and writer/producer of the web series, Exiled Out East. Her short film Anticipation received Honorable Mention at the Hollywood New Director’s Festival. Her pilot script, Todd and Lovett won Best Horror Series at the Big Apple Film Festival was a finalist at ITVFest/Catalyst. She directed the feature documentary, Laissez les Bon Temps Roulez!, which screened in festivals domestically and internationally. Additional work of hers has placed in major festivals and competitions, including Screencraft, Big Break, the New York Television Festival, Dances with Films and more and she was top 15% in the Nicholl Fellowship. She was a camerawoman for five years with the Off-Broadway hit, Blue Man Group. She recently became the recipient of the prestigious NYWIFT Ravenal Directing Grant. She also attended the Cannes Film Festival as a Faculty Advisor for the American Pavilion Student Program, leading a number of Fordham students there. Ms. Bordogna holds a BFA in Film/TV production from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and an MFA in Screenwriting from Goddard, and currently teaches production, screenwriting and film theory at Fordham University.
Course Schedule
Participants should anticipate engaging in activities that require walking as part of the learning experience. If you have any concerns or require accommodations related to mobility, please contact us to ensure your full participation.
The class meetings will consist of lecture, screening of short films and videos, as well as hands-on creative work (filming, editing, etc).
Possible field trips could include a trip to NBC Studios at 30 Rockefeller Center, to do the behind-the-scenes studio tour. This could also include other broadcast studio tours, other production facility tours, etc. Other field trips could include bringing students to a film festival, dependent on calendar schedule – specifically, the New York Asian Film Festival often runs in July and has screenings in a number of different theaters in Manhattan, including Lincoln Center. Another option may be a trip to the Museum of the Moving Image in Queens.

Residential: $4,332.00
Tuition for the residential program includes the course, course materials, housing, meals, and excursions in and outside of class. Move-in is Sunday afternoon, the day before classes begin. Please click here for a more detailed calendar of important dates.
Commuter: $3,125.00
Tuition for commuters includes the course, course materials, lunches, and excursions in and outside of class. Additional meals are available on a pay-as-you-go basis.
Students may wish to bring funds for incidentals, shopping at the Fordham Bookstore, souvenirs, and any personal items they wish to purchase.

Course and housing: May 1, 2026; course only: May 29, 2026. Please note that admission decisions are rolling until the class is full, and course caps are around 20 students. Apply by April 1, 2026 to be considered for a limited number of need-based discounts. We recommend early application.
Application Requirements: this non-credit course is open to high school students who have completed their first year. The course is recommended for those with a 3.0 or better. No prior experience with the subject matter is required.
To apply, you will need a copy of your high school transcript and your fall report card if the grades are not reflected on your transcript.

There is a $75 fee to apply and a $300 deposit to secure your seat. Housing requires a $50 deposit. All payments will be treated as deposits toward your final bill.
