The Religious Studies Program at Fordham
The Religious Studies program examines religious phenomena through an interdisciplinary lens. Majors and minors in Religious Studies have the opportunity to explore the beliefs, texts, practices and histories of different religious traditions from various theoretical perspectives, and consider the many ways these traditions have engaged the arts, culture, literature, and politics. Religious Studies courses are cross-listed with other Fordham departments and programs, including History, Anthropology, Islamic Studies, Modern Languages and Cultures, Jewish Studies, Art History, Theology, Political Science, Medieval Studies, and English.
Because of the program's curricular flexibility, students work closely with our faculty to design a program that reflects closely their intellectual curiosity and career goals. Students are required to consult with a faculty advisor to make the most out of what Fordham and New York City can provide for their educational and professional development. Ultimately, a Religious Studies major or minor at Fordham University prepares our students to meet the challenges posed by the complexities of a world where religion often takes center stage.
