Gannon Lecturer Biography
Marilyn Martone is a retired associate professor of moral theology at St. John’s University in Jamaica, N.Y. She taught moral theology of health care for many years at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.
For seven years she represented the Holy See at the United Nations on women’s issues. She also served on various hospital ethics committees. In 2002 she was the recipient of an NEH grant on “Justice, Equality and the Challenge of Disability.” In 2007, she was one of two recipients of a fellowship on disability ethics at Weill-Cornell Medical College and the Hospital for Special Surgery.
She is the author of Over the Waterfall, a memoir of her daughter’s accident. Since retirement, she has worked with the Ladies of Charity USA to establish a national home-care agency.
