Mandatory Reporting

The University’s Reporting Requirement for Faculty Members, Staff Members, and Administrators, designated Campus Security Authorities under these Policies and Procedures and/or the Clery Act.

When any faculty member, administrator, or staff member who has not been designated as a Confidential Resource observes, learns, or reasonable suspects a member of the University community has been subjected to sexual or related misconduct, that faculty member, staff member, or administrator must report all relevant details of the incident to the University via an array of offices who will assist: the Department of Public Safety (24/7) or, during business hours: the Title IX Office, the Deans of Students for the student's campus, the Vice President for Student Affairs, or Human Resources. Please note that only reporting to a colleague or other administrator not listed above (e.g. a supervisor) does not fulfill this mandatory reporting responsibility.

Reporting this information ensures that individuals who have been subjected to sexual or related misconduct are informed of their rights and options as well as the full range of resources available to them. Reporting also ensures that the University is able to meet compliance obligations under the Clery Act and NYS 129-B laws. Faculty members, staff members, and administrators are not required to report if they are the person who has been subjected to sexual or related misconduct.

Faculty members, staff members, or administrators who do not know if they are obligated to report an incident should contact the Title IX Coordinator/Human Resources to discuss the proper steps to take.
