Orchestra Placement Auditions

FUSO and LCCO is open to all students from the Rose Hill or Lincoln Center campuses.  You do not have to a be a music major to register.  Auditions are for placement of only students who are registered in the ensembles.

FUSO auditions:

Held in-person in the Loyola Band Room at the beginning of each semester.  More information available on Blackboard.

For the placement audition, prepare the following:

  • A solo or orchestral excerpt that demonstrates playing at a fast tempo.
  • A solo or orchestral excerpt that demonstrates lyrical, slower playing.
  • Sight reading will be provided.

Each excerpt may be for 1-2 minutes only and is chosen from concertos, sonatas, showpieces, etudes, or orchestra repertoire.  You may choose excerpts from two separate pieces or two from the same work if they are contrasting.  Choose a repertoire that reflects your best playing.

Students will be evaluated based on:

  1. Tone quality
  2. Intonation
  3. Rhythmic accuracy
  4. Dynamics
  5. Overall musicianship.

Auditions are unaccompanied. If you are not able to audition at the provided times, or for general inquiries, contact Dr. Andy Bhasin, Director of Orchestral Ensembles at [email protected].

New and returning FUSO students who have already registered for the class should schedule a time for the placement auditions.  You can find the sign up form in Blackboard.

LCCO auditions:
LCCO students must create videos of both excerpts.  More information provided on Blackboard.
