Orchestra Placement Auditions
Fordham University Symphany Orchestra (FUSO) and Lincoln Center Chamber Orchestra (LCCO) is open to all students from the Rose Hill or Lincoln Center campuses. You do not have to a be a music major to register. Auditions are for placement only of students who are registered in the ensembles.
Auditions can be scheduled through Blackboard. Please register for the appropriate FUSO or LCCO course section to sign up:
FUSO - MUSC 1281
- Section: R00: 0 credits - non-music majors/minors
- Section: R01: 1 credit - music majors/minors
LCCO - MUSC 1300
- Section: L00: 0 credits - non-music majors/minors
- Section: L01: 1 credit - music majors/minors
FUSO auditions:
Audition dates: Thursday, August 27th, 2:00-9:00pm and Friday, August 28th, 10:00am to 5:00pm in Office B-10 in Loyola Hall - Rose Hill Campus
Held in-person in the Loyola Band Room at the beginning of each semester. More information available on Blackboard.
For the placement audition, prepare the following:
- A solo or orchestral excerpt that demonstrates playing at a fast tempo.
- A solo or orchestral excerpt that demonstrates lyrical, slower playing.
- Assigned excerpts from this semester's repertoire. Link for excerpts
Each excerpt may be for 1-2 minutes only and is chosen from concertos, sonatas, showpieces, etudes, or orchestra repertoire. You may choose excerpts from two separate pieces or two from the same work if they are contrasting. Choose a repertoire that reflects your best playing.
Students will be evaluated based on:
- Tone quality
- Intonation
- Rhythmic accuracy
- Dynamics
- Overall musicianship.

New and returning FUSO students who have already registered for the class should schedule a time for the placement auditions. You can find the sign up form in Blackboard.
LCCO auditions:
Audition date: Lincoln Center Chamber Orchestra audition date: Wednesday, August 26th 6:30-9:15pm in Lowenstein Hall Room 523 - Lincoln Center Campus
