Increasing an Existing Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loan
Understanding Loan Periods & Disbursements
- Fordham’s academic year begins in the fall term and ends in the summer term.
- If you do not already have a Graduate PLUS Loan for this academic year, follow the application process to apply.
- If your loan period covers multiple terms, your total loan amount will be evenly distributed across those terms.
Loan Origination Fee & Calculation
- A 4.228% origination fee is deducted from each loan disbursement.
- To calculate the loan amount you should request, divide the amount you need by 0.95764.
- Example: If you need $8,000 to cover expenses, request $8,354 ($8,000 ÷ 0.95764).
Requesting a Graduate PLUS Loan Increase
If your existing Graduate PLUS Loan did not require an endorser, you can request an increase directly through Fordham.
If your existing Graduate PLUS Loan required an endorser, you must submit a new application through the Department of Education.
