The Scott Simpson Cross-Border Institute unites leading law firms, practitioners, academics, and students worldwide to assess cross-border transactional trends, analyze issues, and drive innovation and best practices.
The Scott Simpson Cross-Border Institute at Fordham Law brings together members of the worldwide legal community and academia to address significant global legal and regulatory issues.
The Institute works in the public interest to advance knowledge and practice via thought leadership and events. The Institute aims to nurture legal talent from varied backgrounds by sharing best practices that address the most pressing global issues facing world economies.
Simpson spearheaded three initiatives that incorporate the Institute's mission.
- Annual Transatlantic Conference - bringing together practitioners and business leaders from across the world to discuss the most pressing legal and regulatory issues facing global economies.
- International M&A Course - Skadden partners and associates, in conjunction with guest speakers from other law firms and clients, teach International M&A at Fordham Law featuring case studies involving important recent cross-border transactions.
- Friday Tea Club Meetings - the Institute hosts leading practitioners from Skadden and across Europe in a virtual setting to discuss the legal issues facing their clients. Meetings focus on geopolitical developments and other market trends impacting cross-border transactions.
About Scott Simpson
The Institute is created in honor of the late Fordham Law alumnus and professor Scott Simpson '82. Scott was one of the world's top M&A lawyers and former global co-head of Skadden's transactions practices.
He dedicated significant resources to this initiative, reflecting the tremendous value he placed on academic discourse and furthering the development of transactional legal practice through creativity, collaboration, and fearless thinking.
Leading law firms from across the globe
The organization is led by Fordham Law and an advisory board comprised of leading law firms from across the globe, chaired by Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom. The board is managed through Fordham Law’s Corporate Law Center and overseen by professor Richard Squire, the Alpin J. Cameron Chair in Law at Fordham Law.
