What is Urban Plunge all about?

When will Plungers move in?

    • Residential students will move in on August 19th from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM on their home campus. Students will be assigned a move-in slot via email.

Where will students be going for community-engaged activities?

    • Students will travel in groups to community service sites in the Bronx and Manhattan. Participants will meet local community leaders and engage in activities such as food distribution, park clean-up, and opportunities to mentor young people. Students will also have an opportunity to explore the boroughs in large groups.

What transportation will students be using?

    • Students will travel to their community service sites via public transportation. Students will always be traveling in a group with experienced upperclassmen.

How many plungers will be assigned to each group?

    • We will have large group activities and discussion, but there will be about 8 - 12 Plungers and 2 - 3 UP Assistants (experienced upperclassmen) per team! There are 25 small groups in total!
Can parents/guardians hang out during Urban Plunge?
    • Parents and guardians are welcome to move students in during Move-In Day, which will be Wednesday, August 19th between 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM on each campus. After Move-In, parents and families are invited to a Family Activity Fair and Lunch from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, and a Commissioning Ceremony from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
    • Please Note: Final goodbyes (for now!) are at 4:00 PM on August 19th. When student programming begins, students will not have an opportunity to meet with their guardians until Orientation day. 

Are parents able to attend New Student Orientation on August 22nd?

    • There is a mandatory New Student Orientation for all first year students that will commence on Saturday, August 22nd. There will be programming for families, including open houses, resource fairs, and Welcome Remarks from Fordham’s president. Urban Plunge Parents are welcome to return to campus on Saturday to attend the day’s events.

What should I pack specifically for Urban Plunge? Does Urban Plunge provide students with supplies?

    • Urban Plunge gifts you with a tote bag, and t-shirt! Our student leaders will also be carrying first aid kits, ponchos, medication (Tylenol), sunscreen, and bug spray. 
    • We encourage students to bring: a reusable water bottle, comfortable clothes for hot weather that you can get dirty, closed-toed walking shoes or sneakers, a blanket or yoga mat, and any personal medications.
