Office of the President

We are an ambitious university.

And we come by our ambitious nature honestly. We are a community of what we Jesuits call the magis, the more, the greater glory of God, the greater and ever more restless and wondering exploration of what it means to be a human being, and of greater service to the human family.

We are honored to serve generations of new alumni who will be entrusted with finding solutions to future challenges that today we cannot foresee. We will continue to open our students' minds and touch their hearts, so that they will be bothered by injustice, fascinated by society's challenges, and endlessly haunted by the suspicion that there is more to be learned—about life, about themselves, and about the mysteries of the human heart.

—Joseph M. McShane, S.J.
