Competitions

The Moot Court Board provides competitive opportunities for students to sharpen their advocacy skills as writers and oralists. Moot Court teams have won significant honors in the past which have gained Fordham national recognition as one of the preeminent Moot Court programs in the country. We encourage anyone with a desire to learn more about Moot Court or the various competitions we host.

Inter-School Competitions

The Fordham Moot Court Board sends teams to several inter-school competitions across the nation.

  • Pepperdine National Entertainment Law Moot Court Competition in Malibu, California:
    Corey Matthews and Frank Piacenti won Second Best Petitioner Brief
  • National Moot Court Competition:
    Lisa Cordara, Maddison Levine, and Nigel Frank won Best Brief at Regionals in New York, New York
  • Phillip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition:
    Kevin Sette won Best Oralist at the U.S. Regional Round in Denver, Colorado Ashley Slater won Sixth Best Oralist at the U.S. Regional Round in Denver, Colorado
  • John J. Gibbons Moot Court Competition in Newark, New Jersey:
    Laura Petty, Elena Cicognani, and George Kobakhidze won Second Best Petitioner Brief

Additionally, the Moot Court Board organizes an inter-school competition, the Irving R. Kaufman Moot Court Competition, in which approximately thirty schools come from across the nation to compete. This competition is held in late March and involves issues relating to federal securities law. Final round judges have included Supreme Court Justices Byron White, Antonin Scalia, and Samuel A. Alito.

Intra-School Competitions

The Editorial Board conducts two intra-school competitions each year which are judged by practicing attorneys as well as federal and state judges: the William Hughes Mulligan Moot Court Competition, held each summer (oral arguments are usually scheduled during the last two and a half weeks of July), and the Maurice Wormser Moot Court Competition, held each fall semester (oral arguments are typically scheduled during late October).
