Moot Court

Fordham Law Moot Court Board

Founded in 1952, the Fordham Law Moot Court Board is one of the nation’s premier student-run moot court organizations. Building on Fordham Law’s longstanding tradition of excellence in advocacy, the Board is dedicated to developing exceptional appellate advocates through brief writing and oral argument. Through its competitive program, the Board provides students with opportunities to sharpen their advocacy skills and engage with complex legal questions.

Upper-class students are invited to join the Board based on their performance in one of two intramural competitions: the William Hughes Mulligan Memorial Moot Court Competition, held in the summer, or the I. Maurice Wormser Memorial Moot Court Competition, held in the fall. Once selected, staff members undertake intensive research and writing, preparing appellate briefs and bench memoranda while developing the analytical and oral advocacy skills essential to effective appellate practice. Board members also have opportunities to represent Fordham Law in national and international moot court competitions.

In addition to competing, the Board organizes Fordham Law’s intramural competitions and hosts the Irving R. Kaufman Memorial Securities Law Moot Court Competition, which brings law students from across the country to argue complex questions of federal securities law before distinguished members of the legal profession. The Board also hosts the MENTOR Moot Court Competition, which provides local high school students with opportunities to experience appellate advocacy. Through these programs, and with the support of Fordham Law alumni, faculty, and practitioners, the Board fosters a community of advocates committed to excellence in the law.
